A New Year Begins

Happy first day of classes at Bluffton, everybody! Today is the official kick-off to the 2009-2010 school year, and campus is a-buzz with activity. This past weekend was one of transitions and firsts, as the new students moved onto campus and got to know their roommates, floormates and other returning students. Today they are taking the plunge into a new academic world, as well as starting work at campus jobs and finding out what clubs and groups to join for out-of-class enrichment.
As an admissions counselor, this is by far one of the best parts of my job: to see the young men and women I've worked with all year become college students and begin thriving and growing. Of course, it is difficult to leave home and adjust to the new surroundings of a residence hall, learn to share your things and space with a roommate and begin taking care of yourself in new and different ways. However, the initial uneasy feeling will certainly subside as a community takes shape around you and a new family is born. I am excited for all that will happen in the coming year, and how our community will be enriched by new minds, hearts and spirits.
Here's to a great year ahead!
-Andrea

P.S. Stay tuned to our blog for entries from us counselors as we begin traveling around Ohio and beyond. Who knows...maybe we'll meet you at a college fair this fall!
